Micro-C

A four-inch ceramic cone under a 19 mm textile dome — a two-way for a desk, a shelf or a small room.

About the Micro-C

The Micro-C is the small end of the range: one four-inch midwoofer and one 19 mm dome per cabinet, in a box you can put on a desk. Small drivers give up level and low bass; what they buy back is a point source, and a stereo image that holds together at close range.

Per cabinet: one 4″ SB12CACS25-4 ceramic-cone midwoofer and one SB19ST-C000-4 textile dome. The C is the cone — ceramic here, aluminium on the Micro.

The Micro-C is the Micro with a ceramic cone. A 4″ SB12CAC ceramic midwoofer under the same 19 mm textile dome, in a cabinet of essentially the same size — SB Acoustics reach for the words “unbelievable detail” and “packs a real punch in the bass”.

Ceramic is chosen for the same reason beryllium is chosen higher up the range: stiffness. A stiffer cone pushes its first breakup mode further above the band it has to cover, and the 68 Hz bottom end here is 2 Hz lower than the aluminium-coned Micro despite a nearly identical box.

Tweeter — One SB19ST-C000-4 per cabinet

A 19.1 mm textile dome on a ferrite motor behind an injection-moulded faceplate. A dome this small stays wide in its dispersion right to the top of the band, which is what keeps a compact two-way sounding open away from the axis.

A 25.4 mm voice coil under a ceramic cone, on a rubber surround, a ferrite motor and an aluminium chassis. A ceramic cone is chosen for stiffness: it holds its shape as a piston further up the band than a softer material manages.

The cabinets arrive finished

The cabinet set arrives cut, assembled and finished at the same works that makes the drivers, on the same machines, to the same tolerances — so the job in front of you is the acoustics: mount the drivers, wire the crossover, fit the damping.

Six finishes are drawn up for the Micro-C: white satin, white high gloss, black satin, black high gloss, red high gloss and orange high gloss. The set covers two cabinets, and it is supplied without grilles.

Tell us which finish you want when you enquire and we will confirm it against the current factory list before anything is ordered.
